Goals and Objectives

The Primary Goal of RUSVM is to provide an opportunity for individuals to obtain a veterinary medical education that will prepare them for entry level veterinary employment or continuation into postgraduate training programs, and to enhance the career and life success of students through initiatives in curriculum, lifelong learning and leadership.

Objective 1. Maintain a curriculum that provides a comprehensive education in veterinary medicine and prepares students to obtain licensure and employment in North America in a variety of veterinary careers.

Objective 2. Foster diversity, tolerance and compassion in graduates entering the profession through admission standards, scholarships and education in a supportive environment of multiculturalism.

Objective 3. Advance the methods of delivery of veterinary education utilizing technology.

Objective 4. Promote life-long learning and encourage student participation in continuing education.

Objective 5. Continually improve the quality of student services.

The Secondary Goal of RUSVM is to improve the health and well-being of animals and people in an emerging agricultural country through scholarly activity and community service, and to develop student appreciation for the role of research in veterinary medicine and the breadth of career opportunities in the profession.

Objective 1. Enhance faculty efforts in applied research and in the development of improved methods of learning through technology.

Objective 2. Foster a focus area of research in parasitology, infectious diseases, public health and epidemiology in collaboration with island and regional Caribbean scientists to enhance animal health and economic development.

Objective 3. Encourage student interest in and appreciation for research through the inclusion of scientific information and methodology in the curriculum.

Objective 4. Provide opportunities for students to participate in intramural and extramural research.

Objective 5. Create opportunities for visiting scientists to collaborate with faculty and to share their knowledge and experience with students through seminars and exchange.
