Notices To The Ross St.Kitts Community

The Safety & Security Departments maintain its involvement in making sure that all safety and security issues continue to be addressed on and off campus, as it relates to our areas of responsibilities and powers. I should remind all community members that our powers off campus are limited, as we do not have the powers to enforce the laws of St. Kitts & Nevis. In this regard, I do not wish to infuriate the police department by over stepping our boundaries. Our continued good relationship with the police is of utmost importance, and we intend to maintain it.

The main purpose of the Safety & Security Department Mobile Patrol involvement off campus is to give us the opportunity to act as a quick response unit where there are incidents involving our community members. Due to the fact that the police sometimes have a delayed approach to their arrival times at these incidents, our quick response at these incidents provide the much needed moral support that our community members.

The Safety & Security Department is not merely for security purposes. Looking at the name, you would realize that safety comes first. This means that our priority is safety. In as much, we would like all community members who have safety concerns, whether on or off campus, to bring them to the attention of the Director of Safety & Security, Telephone numbers 465-4161 Ext. 191 or 662-2812. It will be left to our Department as to what medium should be used to address it. I would like to let you know that you are not a bother to me. That is my job to look after your safety concerns. By the way, out emergency number which is manned 24 hours a day is 465-6161. This is the number to call for emergencies.

Updates will continue to be distributed from the Director of Safety & Security office, when we see a need for information that affects/relates to our community members. However, we do not intend to bore your with all incidents that occur on St. Kitts, only those we believe that you should be aware of, and so we ask that you read them.

A number of facilities projects have started in preparation for our AVMA consultative site visit later this year. Later you might notice some changes in traffic directions. Please adhere to them, as they are solely for your safety and subsequent benefit.

We are also asking all persons who park their vehicles on campus, to have their vehicles registered with the Safety & Security Department. It is to your benefit that we know to whom vehicles belong, in the event we need to relay messages to the owners. Many persons have avoided receiving getting tickets from the police, or being summoned for infractions, when the police contact my office to ask persons to take the necessary corrective actions.

The Safety & Security Department continues to seek your cooperation in making campus and your residential communities safer to live, work and socialize.
