About Research at Ross
Did you know that St Kitts serves as an important nesting ground for the critically endangered hawksbill and leatherback sea turtles and endangered green sea turtles? Nesting activity runs year round on the island with leatherbacks arriving March through July and greens and hawksbills July through September and October, respectively. This island is also one of few islands in the Caribbean where the African green monkey, Chlorocebus sabaeus, is endemic after 300 years since its introduction from Africa. Is pork tapeworm, which is an endemic zoonotic parasite throughout the developing world, present in the Caribbean? Its status has not been defined in the Caribbean. These are just a few of the current research activities at RUSVM.
Research at this school commenced during 2005. Our program is designed to enhance and develop research with our students, faculty and staff. This includes developing student appreciation for the role of research in veterinary medicine and the breadth of career opportunities in the profession.
